Enriching the Cultural Life of the Community

One of the founding ideas of UWR is to function as a creative home for theatre professionals to cultivate and exhibit their work for the general public. As such, no script idea is left unturned.

What:
  • UWR accepts plays of all genres and subjects for play readings, workshops, festivals and full production.

Submit:
  • A synopsis describing your play and the characters including genre, number of acts and locales.
  • Production history of your play. (Ex. Will this be a World Premiere, West Coast Premiere and/or has your play been previously produced.)
  • 5-10 page writing sample of your submitted work.
  • Statement of Intent: Are you interested in further developing your play through workshops, play readings, having your play fully produced or all of the above.
  • List your contact information and email if available.
  • Self addressed postage paid envelop if you would like your writing sample returned.

Review Process:
  • Allow 4-6 weeks for review and response by our literary committee.
  • We will submit a reply back to you via email or postcard. If we are interested in your submitted work, we will request your full length script to review.

Production Acceptance Process:
  • If we feel your script is a fully realized text and fits into our upcoming season, we will offer to produce your work.

Other Options:
  • We keep all playwrights, who submit to us, and their work on file.
  • Workshops and Play Readings.
  • If your submitted script is not accepted for full production, please do not feel discouraged. We encourage you to continue submitting future material to us.
  • Remember, there are many producing factors that playwrights can not control, other than artistic merit, on why a theatre company does not end up producing a play. Stay truthful to your work and continue this noble literary tradition.
