UNIVERSITY WITS REPERTORY

The University Wits Repertory is a newly formed nonprofit corporation aiming to empower those who would otherwise be unable to experience live theatre due to economic, social, racial, or educational reasons by presenting exhilarating productions at affordable rates, starting around the price of a standard movie ticket.

Where'd we get our name?
During the height of Elizabethan Theatre in the Late 16th Century several playwrights by the likes of Christopher Marlowe, John Lyly, Thomas Lodge, Robert Greene, Thomas Nashe, and George Peele began to radically change the face of theatre with their progressive writing styles and use of language and structure. These playwrights or "wits" were university educated and became fondly known as the "University Wits". The University Wits Repertory of today hopes to achieve the same result as these great playwrights of the past. We are set out to progress modern theatre through the development of original work and the cultivation of new and old audience members. The University Wits Repertory is also steadfast in our effort to cultivate the audiences of tomorrow, today by developing a sense of theatre in the youth of today, as well as making the great canon works of the past relevant to a contemporary audience. We hope to achieve all of this through affordable ticket prices and great theatrical productions. The University Wits Repertory will uphold a long tradition but a very progressive ideal; to create empathy in society through theatre.
